The First-Hire Index: Which Teams Tech Companies Started Building in October 2026
By the RoleDawn team · Published · Updated
In October 2026 (month to date, as of October 6, 2026), RoleDawn flagged 649 companies starting a new team across 42 role families. The most common new teams were BizOps & Strategy (79), Growth & Demand Gen (42) and Content & Comms (40).
The First-Hire Index counts companies that posted a role in a team we had not seen on their own careers page before — their first RevOps, SDR, security or data role, for example. It is built from the public job boards of the companies RoleDawn tracks every day. This page updates daily until the month ends; figures are then fixed.

Methodology
Source: job postings that companies publish on their own Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, SmartRecruiters, Recruitee and Workday boards, each re-read about once a day. No LinkedIn data and no personal data.
New team: a role family appearing on a company's board for the first time we have seen. Each signal is labelled observed or inferred; see the signal definitions.
Counting: companies, not postings, by the date the signal was detected (UTC). Staffing agencies and intern, temporary or contractor roles are excluded.
A new team is a timing signal, not proof that a company never had the function or that it has budget.
